The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at North Weald Airfield 10th July 2015 Page 3 of 3
I had been looking forward to this event from the moment I found out about it, the chance to get up close & personal with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's selection of WWII aircraft was an opportunity I couldn't miss.
The Flight were to base themselves at North Weald prior to their flypast over Buckingham Palace, arriving from RAF Coningsby at around 9.30AM in the morning.
At around 11.30AM the flight took off for their planned flypast over the Palace, arriving back about 40 minutes later with 3 awesome flypasts in formation over the airfield!!
Present during the day were 6 BBMF aircraft including 4 Supermarine Spitfires & 2 Hawker Hurricanes. As well as the flypast over Buckingham Palace the day was also being sponsored by the famous watchmakers, Breitling. In fact, there was a 7th aircraft present throughout the day, namely, the Breitling sponsored Supermarine Spitfire, MH434. What a lineup... 7 WWII era aircraft of which 5 were Spitfires & 2 were Hurricanes.
Breitling was also flying selected guests in it's Douglas DC-3 Dakota, HB-IRJ. The Norwegian Historic Flight's 2 De Havilland Vampires turned up early afternoon to refuel prior to heading off to display at an airshow somewhere in the UK. Peter Teichman's Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.XI, PL965 also flew!!
